Planning a trip? Your UC Blue & Gold HMO travels with you.

Whether you’re exploring the United States or venturing beyond its borders, you can travel with confidence knowing that your UC Blue & Gold HMO covers unexpected urgent health situations and emergencies.

Travel within the United States (outside California).

Outside California, the UC Blue & Gold HMO covers only urgent or emergency care. If you believe you have a life-threatening condition while traveling, call 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room.

If you receive emergency care while away from home, notify your primary care physician (PCP) as soon as possible. Your PCP will refer you for any required follow-up specialist care. Remember that your PCP directs all your care while you’re at home in California.

If you don’t believe your condition is life threatening but you need immediate (urgent) care, the plan offers several convenient care options when you’re away from home.

Virtual care/telehealth

Teladoc Health. For nonemergency medical care, access 24/7 video appointments through Teladoc Health.1 Board-certified doctors can diagnose and treat minor illnesses and conditions, like sore throats, rashes and anxiety. They can even prescribe certain medications if medically necessary.2 Plus, you can schedule appointments for virtual behavioral health services seven days a week between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. PT.

Nurse Advice Line. When you are sick or need urgent behavioral health care, call the number on your member ID card for 24/7 support for issues like cold and flu symptoms, minor burns, minor illnesses and injuries, bug bites, stings and more. You’ll be connected to a health care professional (doctor, nurse or other providers depending on your needs) who will be able to help you and answer your questions.

In-person care

Urgent care center: These walk-in clinics can diagnose and treat nonemergency conditions, often at a lower cost than an emergency room visit. For lower out-of-pocket costs, use an in-network urgent care center. Find one through the ProviderSearch tool on the Health Net member portal, or call Health Net’s Health Benefit Navigator team at (800) 539-4072 (Mon–Fri, 8 a.m.–8 p.m. PT). If possible, contact your PCP before seeking care.

MinuteClinic: Health care services at select CVS stores throughout the United States, staffed by nurse practitioners and physician assistants. It’s perfect for nonemergency care when you can’t see your doctor.

In an emergency, call 911 or go to the closest hospital emergency room. For emotional distress or a mental health or substanceuse crisis, call or text 988 for immediate support.

If you receive emergency care while away from home, notify your primary care physician (PCP) as soon as possible. Your PCP will need to refer you for any follow-up specialist care. Remember that your PCP directs all your care while you’re at home in California.
